Clock in and out
Use Clock in/out to start and stop your timer, record a break, answer a long-shift check, and sign a safety form a job needs before you can start.
On this pageOn an iPhone
Clock in/out is the dedicated page for starting and stopping your timer. Your first day on the tools covers the same clock from Home; this article covers what the dedicated page adds: the running timer, breaks, a check-in on long shifts, and the safety form a job can ask you to sign before you clock in.
On an iPhone
The ONYX1 clock field widget uses the ONYX1 mark and can show your clock status or next assigned job on the Home Screen and Lock Screen. When you clock in successfully in the ONYX1 app, the widget and Live Activity show the running timer. They are display-only: tap the widget or Live Activity to open Clock in/out in ONYX1, then use the in-app Clock in or Clock out controls. The field widget does not show a customer name or full street address.
On Apple Watch with watchOS 11 or later, the iPhone app can show the Live Activity in the Smart Stack so you can see the timer at a glance.
The field widget has no Updated footer. If a widget says Open ONYX1 to refresh or shows a stale status, open the app before relying on it. While a clock is open, the widget may say Break not recorded; choose and confirm your break when you clock out.
Before you start
If a job has a required safety form, open its Safety tab, complete the form from Forms, and sign it before you can clock in on it. If a job is waiting for the owner to approve its safety documents, it doesn't appear in the Job list at all until that clears. Clocking in and out both need a signal; with none, wait until you have one and try again.
Clock in
- Open Clock in/out from the menu.
- Choose the job from the Job list, or leave it on No job for time that isn't on a job.
- Select Clock in.
The card switches to a running timer. If your business records clock-in locations, ONYX1 takes a location reading first and clocks you in either way, even if the reading fails. A notice can follow the clock-in:
- Away from the site: "You appear to be away from the job site, so this clock-in has been flagged."
- In a browser, location blocked by the site: "Your clock-in was recorded without a location, because location is blocked for this site. To allow it next time, tap the icon at the left of the address bar → Location → Allow."
- In a browser, location unavailable for any other reason: "Your clock-in was recorded without a location. Check your browser’s location setting before your next clock-in."
- In the ONYX1 Android app, location blocked: "Your clock-in was recorded without a location. Turn on Location for this device and allow ONYX1 to use it."
- In the ONYX1 Android app, location unavailable for any other reason: "Your clock-in was recorded without a location. Check that Location is turned on for this device."
Select Dismiss to clear the notice. None of these block the clock-in itself; an off-site clock-in is visible to your managers on Team.
Sign a required safety form
Open the job from the Open the job link in the refusal, or from its own page. Select Safety, then Forms, and under the form that needs signing:
- Fill in the form.
- Select Sign off.
If the form is a signature, select Save signature once you've signed. Once it's signed, the form shows signed and you can clock in.
Take a break and clock out
- Select Clock out.
- Under Lunch / breaks today, select None, 15m, 30m, 45m or 1h, or type the minutes yourself.
- Select Confirm clock-out.
If a break you already recorded is longer than the shift, the confirm step tells you so; lower it and try again. Cancel returns you to the running timer without closing the shift.
If your shift runs long
Past the point your business checks in on long shifts, a Still on site? card appears above Clock out:
- Select Yes, still going if you are, and the card goes away until the next check-in point.
- Select No, I finished at this time if you finished earlier, after fixing the time shown to your real finish. This opens the same break step as Clock out and closes the shift at that time, not now.
A finish time before your clock-in is refused: "That time is before you clocked in. Check it and try again."
After you clock out
If the job has an End-of-Day report due today, a reminder appears: "You clocked out. Don’t forget today’s End-of-Day report." Select Fill or sign it to open the job, or Dismiss to clear the reminder.
Your shifts today
Below the clock, My timesheet lists today's entries: the job, when you started, and how long you worked, or an on the clock pill while a shift is still open. For your full week and to submit it for approval, open Timesheets from the menu, covered in Your first day on the tools.
