Find your way around
The menu, the phone tab bar, search, notifications, Settings and Help, and where each one sits on a computer and on a phone.
On this pageOn a computer
ONYX1 shows each person only the menu items their role, plan and enabled modules allow, so two people can see different menus. A group with no visible items for you is hidden. Show or hide features explains the owner's module choices.
On a computer
The sidebar starts with Home, Approvals and Customers, with Portfolio below Customers when it is available. It then groups the rest of the work under Work, Sales, Team, Safety, Resources and Finances. Finances can open to Overview and Forecast when those pages are available to you. Price book is under Settings for the roles that can manage it. Select a group heading to open or close it.
- The dock button at the top shrinks the sidebar to an icon rail and expands it again. ONYX1 remembers the choice for your user on that browser.
- The sidebar footer contains Settings when your role can manage workspace settings or the price book, Help, your account row and Sign out. Dispatcher and office users see the Price book category there and no other workspace settings.
- The top bar contains search, notifications and + New. Select + New to see only the records your role can create: Job, Draft job, Task, Lead, Quote, Invoice, Customer, Purchase request and Incident. Some entries are hidden when a module or permission is off.
- Forms is available to owners and admins for authoring. Checks is a separate destination for the roles that can use it.
- When business branding is available for your workspace, the sidebar shows your logo with a small on ONYX1 mark. Otherwise it shows the ONYX1 wordmark and business name.
- If your role and assignment support both views, the account area includes a Business and Trade switch for Home.
The sidebar is sized to fit the working area. Long groups scroll inside the sidebar, with a quiet scrollbar that does not create a page-wide horizontal scrollbar.
On a phone
Every phone screen keeps a small ONYX1 wordmark and your business name at the top. Select the + in the top corner to open the role-based creation menu as a bottom sheet.
- The business tab bar is Home, Jobs, Approvals, Customers and More.
- The crew tab bar is Home, Jobs, Timesheets and More.
- More opens a full-screen menu with search and the same groups as the desktop sidebar, except Home and Settings, each with its icon. Select a group to open or close it. All groups start closed except the one that holds the page you are on. Appearance (System, Light or Dark), Settings (when you can open it), Help, your account and Sign out follow at the end of the same scroll.
- The tab bar hides while you are inside a record, so the record has the full screen.
The same layout works in the iOS and Android apps. Phone scrolling uses the platform's own overlay indicator rather than adding a permanent scrollbar.
Home
Home is tailored to your view. Business users see the work that needs attention, today's people and jobs, current clock-ins, upcoming due work and the money loop. Crew users see their live clock, today's assigned jobs, filing tasks and certificates or gear due. Crew Home does not show company money or business totals. See How ONYX1 works for the Home cards and workflow.
Search
Select the search box, press / anywhere outside a text box, or press ⌘K on a Mac (Ctrl+K on Windows).
- Start typing to filter quick actions and every page you can open.
- After 2 characters, ONYX1 also searches the jobs, customers, quotes and invoices you are allowed to see, plus the help articles.
- Help centre is always in the list.
Notifications
The bell opens Notifications. Select a notification to open what it is about; that also marks it read. Mark all read clears the list, and Show read brings back the ones you have read.
Under Push on this device, select Enable on this device for alerts on the phone or computer you are using. On an iPhone or iPad, push alerts work after you add the browser version to your home screen. See Install ONYX1 on your phone.
Settings, your account and Help
- My account is available from your account row. Everyone can change their own password and set up two-factor authentication there.
- Settings is for workspace settings and the price book. It appears for owners and admins, and for dispatcher and office users who can manage the price book. On a phone, it opens as a list of categories; on a wider screen, the categories run down the left.
- Open Help from the sidebar footer, the More menu, Help centre in search or the ? beside a page title. In a browser, Help opens in a new tab so ONYX1 stays open behind it. In the app, it opens inside the app.
In the help centre, results appear as you type in the search box at the top. Use Show articles for to narrow the topics to owners, the office, crew or, when you are signed in, the ones for your role. On a phone, the More menu lists every topic. To send someone an article, select Share at the top right of the article. It copies the article's public link, and the button reads Copied for a moment. This works in the app too, where there is no address bar. If your device won't let ONYX1 copy, the link appears in a box, already selected, so you can copy it yourself.
